The Korean Society for Food Science of Animal Resource (KoSFA) and the National Institute of Animal Science in Korea has taken the initiative to host the 56th International Congress of Meat Science and Technology (ICoMST) with the theme of Meeting of the East and West in Meat Science and Culture. The main aim of this ICoMST 2010 is disseminating the latest research, innovations and visions within the field of meat science and technology from west to east in the world.
ICoMST is the annual forum for the international exchange of new scientific ideas in meat science. The first congress was organised in 1955 under the name ‘European Meeting of Meat Research Workers’. The name was changed to International Congress of Meat Science and Technology in 1987. Today the congress has representation from all major meat producing countries with attendees from up to 50 different nations thus providing a unique forum for exchange of scientific knowledge and ideas, planning of joint research and other co-operative issues.
The aim of ICoMST is to enhance the co-operation and exchange of information between academic researchers and industry researchers in the field of meat science and technology. The meeting focus on the latest findings in specific areas, critical reviews of work in relevant fields as well as updating attendees on current issues to be addressed. Researchers with different levels of scientific experience have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas. Students and young researchers are particularly encouraged to attend.
The organizing body for the annual congress is the National Contact Person Meeting. ICoMST has a Contact Secretary, who provides a permanent address for ICoMST to facilitate co-operation and contacts with the past and future meetings. The function of the Contact Secretary is also to establish contacts with people and organizations outside ICoMST and assist the organizers of the meetings. The congress is organized each year by a committee of meat scientists from the host country.
